We harvest angelica there, for our natural products. Hrísey Island only has a population of 180. Yes, that’s one-hundred-and-eighty. The island is covered by large angelica fields, so it’s a great place for us to harvest it. It’s also very positive that we’re doing it there, since angelica can be an aggressive plant. So much so, in fact, that it’s best to control its growth somewhat.

I’m writing this to thank you for your product SagaPro and to pass on information that may be helpful to others with problems passing urine or blood clots before or after BPH surgery. It’s been a “miracle cure” for me and you have my permission to use this as a testimonial if you wish.

Jack’s story:

I had successful “Green-Light” laser surgery for BPH 6 years ago for a 110 gram prostate. About a year and a half later I began intermittently passing small amounts of blood in my urine, always after heavy lifting or intense physical workouts. Gradually the amount of blood increased and the amount of stress required to start a bleeding episode decreased. About 2 years ago the bleeding got to the point that it was starting and stopping spontaneously every few days. I couldn’t do anything without starting to bleed. Even taking my dog for a walk was too much exercise. I would start passing blood and multiple blood clots, occasionally the size of my thumb. I had my blood count done twice in the past year after bleeding episodes that lasted more than 2 weeks but in each case my CBC (Complete Blood Count) was at the low end of normal, (i.e. ~15). There was never any pain involved and I’ve had no other symptoms of BPH since my surgery. I had two prostate biopsies done in the last two years with no sign of malignancy but all cores came back marked “chronically inflamed with no pathogens present”. I started doing research on the Internet over a year ago and had found only two individuals with symptoms similar to mine but no solutions for my problem. My doctor’s only recommendation was TURP surgery but I rejected this solution as disingenuous. The side effects of this surgery can be significantly more horrendous than my condition. Also, sites such as the Mayo Clinic and Duke University Hospital suggested that this approach was rarely successful. This situation was extremely stressful and discouraging for me as I had always been very active, regularly participating in triathlons for several years prior to this problem.

After two and a half years with this bleeding problem, it suddenly stopped about three months ago. It stopped four days after I started taking a supplement called SagaPro made by SagaMedica, an Icelandic company. I can’t say for certain that this is what stopped the bleeding but if not, it certainly was an extraordinary coincidence. Also, my PSA had been increasing for the past 10 years. Six months ago it was 27.8. Three days ago I had my semi-annual check-up and my PSA was 3.8! My doctor was shocked and asked if I would send him the email address of SagaMedica. I just turned 70 years old and have recently started triathlon training again.

The Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted recently and has had considerable impact on daily life in Europe. The cloud emitted from the volcano reached Europe and caused an unprecedented ban in air traffic.

Latest news indicates that the eruption may be subsiding and the ash cloud has lessened considerably.

Impact on people living close to Eyjafjallajökull  

People living close to the volcano had to evacuate their homes because of the threat of floods (the volcano is underneath a glacier). As the days went by, their farms were covered in large amounts of ash.

Many farms will need time to regain their full productivity and Icelanders are very sympathetic toward those having difficulties.

Is Iceland affected as a whole by the eruption?

Iceland is a large island (103.000 square kilometers) and the eruption is in the southernmost tip of the country. Winds have blown the ash directly out to sea as seen on the picture below. There has been no sign of the ash in the capital area or in any other areas outside the one closest to the volcano. 

Is SagaMedica affected by the eruption?

SagaMedica has enough raw material to last for a long time, so there will be no shortage and our production is not affected by the eruption at all. Also, we harvest material in many places in Iceland, far away from the volcano. In that sense, our production capacity is not affected.

We’re not downplaying the eruption; it’s as serious as others like it. But please be aware that Iceland is a perfectly safe place to visit. The media attention has been rather one-sided and probably skewed because of the disproportionate effect the eruption has had on air traffic in Europe.
